Bomb Squad

Mission Statement

The mission of the DPS Bomb Squad is to provide render safe response capabilities, post blast investigation expertise, and other explosive related aid to any law enforcement agency, while ensuring the protection of lives and property and the prosecution of explosive or other hazardous device related crimes.

Response

The Alabama State Trooper Bomb squad is a state wide response unit under the Alabama Bureau of Investigation Division. All squad members are FBI certified bomb technicians and the squad is FBI accredited. Services provided by the DPS Bomb Squad include: - Improvise Explosive Devices - Suspicious Packages - Explosive Recovery including old or deteriorated Explosives - Explosive Detection Canine Response - High Profile Event, IED Prevention Security Measures - Post Blast Investigation - Tactical Support (Robotics, IEDs) - APOST certified trainning

Training

One part of this unit's mission is to better equip any law enforcement or "first responder" agency with knowledge that will help keep them safe and better protect the public the serve. Under this same belief for public protection and awareness, the unit provides trainning to schools, other goverment entities and the private sector to help them prepare for bomb threats or actual bombings.

Educational Facilities, Goverment Buildings and Private Enterprise

Bomb Threat Management, for all employees, is a lecture designed for developing a bomb incident plan.

Bomb Threat Management Workshop, for building managers and supervisors, provides an in-depth training including how to write a bomb incident plan and a hands on approach for building searches. May be incorporated into Bomb Threat Management and conducted in two separate sessions.

Civil and Non-Profit Organizations

Unit Lecture, usually for adult age, civic organizations, is a brief lecture that covers unit capabilities of a non-law enforcement sensitive nature.

Unit Expo, usually for outdoor festivities including children, is an informal expo, that includes robot demos for the kids as well as static equipment displays.
